Ad Growth in 2008

The slowdown in the US economy hasn’t spared the advertising industry but there are some bright spots. According to The Nielsen Company's Nielsen Monitor Plus specific types of media as well as industries have recorded increases.

Spending has been up in the following media forms in 2008:

  • Spanish-​language TV
  • African-​American TV
  • National newspaper Sunday supplements
  • Network radio

Spending has been up in the following industries:

  • Restaurants
  • Credit card services
  • Financial investment services

The following major companies have also increased spending:

  • Procter & Gamble
  • General Motors
  • Toyota

This data indicates that opportunities exist in 2008’s economy. Remind your clients that marketing to specific segments such as ethnic groups can increase sales.
