Cold pitches during the coronavirus: Necessary or no way? While it may seem like quite the dilemma, the answer to others is clear. “Yes, but you need to think differently about your offering and your approach,” writes Entrepreneur’s Jason Feifer. Being thoughtful about how you approach your usual pitch method during this unique time can have a positive impact on your prospects. 

Feifer met with an entrepreneur, whose majority of business is acquired through cold pitches, and an industry professional to get their insights into how to best approach cold pitches during this time. In addition to sharing a video, Feifer also highlights the top three takeaways from his conversation, which can help you in turn handle your own approach to cold pitches during the coronavirus. Here is just one:

One of the biggest things is to focus on providing a service rather than just getting new business. Yes, you want to pitch your product or service, but you need to emphasize that you are looking to help the prospect rather than just close a contract. “Consider what your potential clients are going through right now,” Feifer urgest. “They’re scrambling…They could use some help, and that’s your opening.” Before reaching out, do some research about that type of prospect, with special attention to how they may be personally affected by this crisis. Cold pitches during the coronavirus must be personalized, so, say you’re pitching window replacements: Specifically point out the age of the home and how due to older windows, the homeowner may be actually losing money because of energy loss. Or, consider special financing offers in case the homeowner is particularly financially affected from the outbreak.

Position yourself as a helper rather than a seller. Prospects will appreciate the sentiment, now more than ever. Cold pitches during the coronavirus don’t need to be stopped, but they do need to be adapted. This tip, along with Feifer’s other two, can help you think about ways to adjust your strategy for this new normal we all are experiencing.
