Franchising continues to be a bright spot fueling business and employment growth. The total number of franchise concepts grew nearly 20% in the past five years. Some industry segments, such as home health care businesses, experienced nearly 30% growth rates.
Franchiser companies typically dictate specific levels of advertising expenditures for their franchisees. In some cases, franchisees turn over revenues to the franchiser company for national marketing campaigns. In other cases, franchisees pool funds for regional marketing campaigns. In addition, franchisees also spend on their own advertising campaigns.
