Increase Hotel Appeal by Marketing Green Practices

Luring business travel guests may be more challenging than ever as fuel costs increase and airlines cut service but there are ways to make sure your hotel clients remain competitive. The buzz word for 2008 is GREEN.

On the green front, a Deloitte Tourism and Hospitality report shows that business travelers expect hotels to do the following:

  • Recycle 77%
  • Use energy-efficient lighting 74%
  • Use energy-efficient windows 59%
  • Make it easy to request not changing sheets/towels 42%

While 70% of business travelers are interested in green practices, the survey revealed that consumers under age 30 are far less likely than Boomers to show their personal green side when it comes to details like turning off unused lights.  But you can incorporate your hotel clients’ commitment to green practices in marketing messages in order to increase visibility and guest visits and maybe the environmental emphasis will encourage more people to turn off unused lights.
