Need for Volunteer/Employee Screening at Nonprofits Means Opportunity

Between the ongoing threat of terrorist activity and high-profile reports of child abuse it would seem that all organizations need the services of employee screening services or private investigators who perform background checks. However, the  recently published National Survey of Nonprofit Volunteer Screening Practices indicates that some organizations should be doing more to screen volunteers. Here are a few survey results:

  • Just over 1 in 10 organizations do not screen volunteers.
  • ¼ of organizations fail to conduct background checks as part of the screening process.
  • 2/3’s of organizations that conduct background checks fail to use fingerprint records.

Nonprofit organizations provide valuable services and appropriate volunteer screening could reduce risk and increase peace of mind. Contact your employee screening service and private investigator clients and suggest a new marketing campaign targeting nonprofits and volunteer screening.
