Have you thought about your goals for 2016? Your resolutions could be the standard dreams to lose weight, eat healthier, pray more, watch less TV, etc., but why not make 2016 the year you finally become happier and more successful?
In an article for Inc.com, Sujan Patel identifies 12 tips to achieve a work life balance that will prevent burnout and make your 2016 a much more enjoyable year. Here are a few of his tips:
Turn Off Push Notifications
If you don’t leave work at the office, it will creep into your personal life and potentially damage your relationships. So when business hours end, turn off your email, social media and app notifications. Check them at your leisure instead of every time a notification would come through.
Set Time Expectations for Responses
Instead of stopping what you are doing to answer an email, text, phone call, etc., set a time frame for when you will respond. Letting people know your time frame satisfies their need for an immediate response and lets you maintain control over your work.
You are given paid time off for a reason. So use it! Time away from the office refreshes your mind, body and spirit, and lets you connect with your loved ones without the stressors of the daily grind. So schedule your vacation for 2016 and put it on the calendar!
This is a double whammy! Not only will it help you maintain any weight loss or health goals you might have (if any), but it also helps you cope better with stress, depression and anxiety.
Start a Consistent Wake Up Time
To be your most effective at work every day, establishing your circadian rhythm is essential! Set a consistent time to wake up and stick to it, even on the weekends. To help with this, establish a morning routine that includes exercising, some time for personal development, eating breakfast and getting ready for your day.
Make a To Do List
Seeing everything you must get done in a day helps you get organized, manage your time, and feel satisfaction as you check each item off. Be sure you list all your “MUST DOs” at the top and your “Can wait til tomorrow” items at the bottom.
