Weekend is Hottest Time to Purchase Apps

"When Should You Launch Your iOS App? Aim For The Weekend. That's when people have the free time to download and use them. Timing is everything, according to app marketing and optimization firm Sensor Tower. Its new report on iOS apps suggests that weekends are the best time to plug those apps, in general. In most categories, that‰Ûªs when people use them, make purchases and download new onesåÊthe most."

"But not all apps and target audiences are the same, and results can vary from one type of app to another."

"Understanding revenue tendencies is important because you need to know when to run your in-​app purchase promotions," Hugh Kimura wrote in Sensor Tower's blog. "If you are launching an app for the first time or running a download ad campaign, you need to understand when people are most likely to download your app."

"In most cases, the findings lined up with common sense: Weekends were generally the best day to promote apps, particularly when it came to lifestyle-​oriented apps," Adriana Lee wrote in readwrite​.com. "But if people care about fun on the weekends, then they're all about work during the week, with business apps doing well Monday through Friday. While they were at the office, they also tended to download finance apps, though they used them and made purchases through them on weekends. Users also tried to keep productivity up pretty consistently across the week and weekends, with usage and revenue holding fairly steady."

To find The Best Days to Launch or Promote Your iOS App, Sensor Tower totaled the estimated weekly downloads and revenue for all iOS apps in the U.S., for each category. Then it broke down the downloads and revenue by day to see what percentage of the weekly total happened on each day. This data is for January through March, 2015.

Here is the nitty-​gritty you need to know:

Sensor Tower recommends running your purchase promotions on Wednesday or Thursday for business-​related apps.

"Medical apps tend to make the most money during Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday. Unlike a lot of other categories, they make the LEAST money on Saturday," Kimura wrote.

"Saturday is the best day to promote Entertainment app purchases. Sunday is the absolute best day to promote purchases for Food & Drink apps. If you have to run promotion during the week, Monday and Wednesday are best."

"Like other categories, health and fitness apps do well on weekends. But unlike other categories, they also do well at the beginning of the week. Sunday is the best day by far, but the other days aren‰Ûªt too bad either. Just avoid Friday."

The research reveals that these app purchasers are 33% more likely than average consumers to live metropolitan lifestyles, so keep this in mind for your entertainment-​style apps. 35% are living in urban areas.

38% of this audience enjoys entertaining/​hosting or attending parties. And another 34% are into fashion (clothing, shoes, handbags, etc.). As far as health + fitness go, 31% are running/​jogging for sport. 44% saw ads on mobile smartphone apps or text messages and took action in the past 30 days.
