U.S. News Media Group recently released two new travel destination rankings, giving fall travelers more guidance on where to visit in the U.S. The fall is a good time to visit a few popular summer destinations, since their prices, crowds and temperatures have dropped. The fall season also distinguishes those cities with particularly beautiful fall foliage and fun festivals.
The ranking of "Best Fall Getaways" identifies travel destinations with particularly attractive features in the upcoming months, such as seasonal discounts, city-wide festivals and exceptional weather, while the ranking of "Best Adventure Vacations in the USA" highlights national parks, tropical islands and bustling cities where visitors find no shortage of things to do in the great outdoors.
The new rankings pinpoint seasonal vacation spots based on a methodology that combines expert and consumer opinions. They reflect how strongly a destination is recommended by an independent collection of published travel writers and by U.S. News Travel website users.
"Whether in the fall or any time of year, everyone is looking for a great travel experience," said Chad Smolinski, Vice President of Rankings and Reviews at U.S. News & World Report. "Our vacation rankings help travelers find places that others would recommend in a heartbeat."
The new information is part of the 2011–2012 U.S. News Best Vacations rankings, which are updated annually. In total, more than 100 top destinations were considered in the current rankings, and that list will likely double in the coming year. The opinions of travel writers and consumers distinguish these award-winning destinations from other vacation spots. The 2011–2012 award winners for Best Fall Getaways and Best Adventure Vacations in the USA are as follows:
|Best Fall Getaways||Best Adventure Vacations in the USA|
|New York City||Maui|
