Helping Clients Target Movers

One way to help your clients find new business is to target new residents in the community. Though the overall percentage of US residents who move has dropped somewhat in the last decade, millions of consumers continue to pull up stakes and relocate. Here's a broad demographic snapshot of consumers who moved in the last 5 years according to the PewResearchCenter:

  • Hispanics 48%
  • Between ages 18–29 65%
  • Unmarried 41%

And here's a snapshot of consumers who say they might move in the next 5 years:

  • All consumers 40%
  • Blacks 59%
  • Between ages 18–29 65%
  • Unmarried 48%

Understanding why people move can help your clients sell the goods and services these new residents might be seeking. Here's why people say they move:

  • Good place to raise children 36%
  • Education/schooling 29%
  • Climate 18%
  • Recreational activities 17%

Why not encourage your clients to launch a direct mail campaign targeting new residents in your community? And check out the Pew report to find specific details on who's moving where in the US.
