Today’s Tech Innovation Award Winners – Poised as Tomorrow’s Market Leaders?

Venture capitalists have a knack for investing  in profitable business trends but you might also want to check out the Wall Street Journal's 2008 Tech Innovation award winners for your next lead. Companies represented in this list operate in the medical/​biotech, consumer electronics and  security industries and are poised to lead sales in specific sectors.

Physical Security — Vumii of Burlington, MA has introduced a new generation night-​vision camera that allows operators to capture details such as the faces of possible intruders. The device will be marketed to power plant and water system operators, among others.

Medical/​Biotech — Israel-​based Rosetta Genomics has launched a diagnostic test that detects genetic links to cancer by using microRNA. Diagnosis of a specific form of cancer leads to more targeted treatment. Rosetta Genomics is just one company in this market segment.

Consumer Electronics — The marriage of information, communication and technology continues to result in innovative products for the consumer market. Spot, Inc. has been launched as a  satellite-​based messaging service for adventure seeking consumers (outside of mobile phone covered areas) who need to communicate or send a request for help.
