Just when you think search engine optimization (SEO) is, well, optimized, a new year comes along with its new trends. According to Zen Media, here are a few of the SEO trends for 2023 and the insights that you need to know.

Prioritize Structured Data

First of all, what is structured data? According to Zen Media, it’s information that is tagged using machine readable codes that helps search engines understand what each of the website’s pages contain, as well as how the pages relate to each other. Google says that for a recipe page, for example, structured information includes ingredients, cooking times, calories, etc. Without structured data, search engines won’t be able to index your client’s website. If your client’s site isn’t indexed properly, it won’t be found by the consumers who are interested in your client’s products or services. Yikes.

What can you do to make sure this doesn’t happen to your client’s website? Get in touch with their IT team to ensure that their structured data is included in the website’s code. That way, it will be easy for the right consumers to find your client’s website (and make purchases on it!).

Optimize Your Client’s Content

Optimizing your client’s content isn’t one of the new SEO trends for 2023, but how it should be optimized changes constantly. So, here’s your reminder to get that ball rolling!

According to Zen Media, “SEO-optimized content looks like fresh, valuable content that answers users’ questions or offers the solutions they’re looking for.” The good news is that much of your client’s content can still be used. You may just need to tweak it to add in new keywords that relate to the blog, page, etc. Get data together that shows popular keywords in your client’s industry and common questions consumers search for to find solutions like your client’s. Once you have that information, you can start optimizing content and creating new content to fill in the gaps.

Utilize Video

Speaking of SEO-optimized content, Zen Media highly recommends adding video to your client’s website. Why? Because video:

  • Influences consumers to stay on your client’s website for longer, which can boost the site’s search rankings
  • Is so popular among consumers that 53% want to see more video content
  • Drives consumers to take action, including making purchases

Don’t Forget to Optimize TikTok

If your client hasn’t included TikTok in their marketing strategy yet, they’re very behind. Not only does the app have more than 755 million users, 60% of its users (453 million consumers) are now using TikTok for discovery instead of Google, according to Zen Media.

So, in order to stay on top of SEO trends for 2023, your client not only needs to start making TikTok video ads, they also need to optimize their videos by:

  • Including hashtags relevant to their niche product/service/target audience
  • Including keywords in their video descriptions
  • Creating content that’s relevant to their target audience. They can’t just make a funny video of employees doing a TikTok trend and call it a day. The content needs to be informative and entertaining for potential customers. Make them interested in your client's company and wanting to learn more.
